Last week, I attended a fashion show on the rooftop of the
MDA City Apartments. The view was
amazing, the company was great and it was all for a good cause! The event doubled as a fundraiser for the
Sankofa Theatre Company and a pre-pride party, in celebration of equality and
gay rights.
As usual, the lovely Amber McCulloch of Style Plus Curves
joined me. We enjoyed sangria, tasty
appetizers and a little bit of shopping while we eagerly awaited the start of
the show. My favorite purchase of the
evening was a foxy pair of feather earrings, hand-made by Haut Statement. I cannot wait to rock them with some black
heels and a burgundy dress to match!
Eight, local designers showcased a selection of their pieces
in the runway show. Gabrielle Zwick was a personal favorite of mine with her
1940’s-inspired pieces.
I was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of up-cycled,
vintage designers as well. Venus Meets
Vintage, Rehbd Vintage, and LeThrift showcased rehabbed vintage pieces that
captured a specific era, while still exuding a modern appeal.
The crowd of people that attended made it obvious that the
event was quite a success!
I certainly enjoyed the evening and I look forward to the
possibility of attending again next year.
I hope everyone had a safe and happy Pride!
